Screen Printing

Before leaving for Easter break I began a new part to my project that was not ready in time for my tutorial with Roger, which was screen printing.
After doing a introduction/ tutorial in photo screen printing at the beginning of last term, I was interested in trying it and it was always an intention to try it at some point within this project as I am focussing so much on printing. I remembered my desire to experiment with the medium after finding an artist and former student ‘Jessie Campbell’ who had not long given a talk at the Uni. So I went onto her website to look at some of her work, which I really liked and I believe was photo etching. Some of the pieces made me think how I could incorporate my own images I had into layering with the printing techniques and woodcuts I already have.
Here are some images of the screen I used, with my Venetian architecture image transferred onto it;

After I explained to Roger my intentions with the photo screen printing and how I hope to incorporate my two ways of working together he showed me some work in the next door studio of a third year student he tutored. The student had worked in the same medium on screen printing for most of his time at Falmouth and his style had apparently really grown and improved over the years. I found his work really inspiring, as it is collaged black and white images of photos and patterns that have then been printed on top of in small amounts with colour.
